Faculty: If you want to embed Ed.Flicks videos into your Canvas classroom, then contact Lily Kun to get a special link for faculty access. This special link cannot be displayed to the public per the subscription license agreement and is different from the student link that is on the library database page.
There are two ways you can use Ed.Flicks in Canvas: embedding videos or linking to the videos.
Embedding videos is more student centered because it will allow your students to watch the video directly in the Canvas environment, though setting it up is a little more work.
Linking to the video is faster for faculty to set up, but may create more problems for students (e.g. links may be broken, incorrect or out-of-date; student not able to login; etc.) because it will send your students to an external link outside Canvas, which may require your students to log in through the SPSCC login portal before they can watch the video.
Note: This is a two step process. First, you'll need to download the video from Ed.Flicks onto your computer using the special faculty link (contact Lily Kun to get the link). Then, you'll need to upload the video into Canvas through Panapto.
1. Using the special faculty link to access Ed.Flicks (contact Lily Kun to get the link), click on the Expand All button to get links to all the videos.
2. Click on the link to the video you want to use.
3. Download the video file you want to use onto your computer.
Note: higher image quality will require larger file sizes, which may take more time/bandwidth to load.
In Canvas:
4. Click on Panopto Recordings on the course menu.
5. Create a new folder to keep all of your Ed.Flick videos in one place.
Tip: Name the folder "Ed Flicks videos" and tuck it under the My Folders parent folder. This will make it easier for you to find the videos in the future no matter which course you're logged into.
6. Upload the video you downloaded from Ed.Flicks into Panopto. Make sure you upload it into your Ed Flicks folder!
Note: Be patient. Your video may take time to upload and be processed.
7. To embed your videos into your course, choose where you want it to go, then click on the green panopto icon in the text editor.
Tip: Type in the title of the video and database name (Ed Flicks) on the page so that it will be easier to help students if the video has a problem or doesn't work.
8. Find your video in your Ed Flicks folder under My Folders.
Tip: click on the triangle on the left of My Folders to display subfiles.
9. Choose the video you want to insert into the page.
10. Done! Remember to Save and Publish your page.
Ed.Flicks uses the URL in the internet browser address as the permanent address for the videos.
Note: Look for the ezproxy.spscc.edu string in the URL. It redirects students to the SPSCC login portal to authenticate. Without this string in the URL, your students will not be redirected to the SPSCC login portal and will not be able to access the video.
