Dungeons & Dragons (affectionately called DnD or D&D) is what is known as a Table Top Role Playing Game (TTRPG). The game is about telling a story in a fantasy world where different beings use weapons and magic to have adventures. Imagination drives the game as players create their characters and then decide how those characters would react in certain situations such as exploring or combat.
While imagination and make believe are key elements, DnD gives structure to its stories through a combination of rules and chance. The rules are very general to allow creativity while the chance comes through players rolling dice to determine things like if they hit or miss in their attacks and whether their characters can make a jump, notice something, or pull off another task. The keys to a good game is both the storytelling and how well the players can think on their feet to react.
When it comes to DnD, the possibilities are infinite and the only limits are the players’ creativity.
In this guide, we’ll go over key terms you need to know to play, the supplies you need and others you may want, the basics of gameplay, and both text and video resources to send you on your way.
