About the Library

Computer Use Policy

The primary use of library computers is for academic, educational, and research purposes. SPSCC Library's first priority is always to our currently enrolled students. Academic work takes precedence over the use of library computers for entertainment. Library computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis. However, during times of high use when students are waiting for computers, computer users who are not doing academic work will be asked to yield their computers for other students who need to complete their academic work.

Community users (anybody who is not a currently enrolled SPSCC student) are welcome to use the library's computers any time during open hours if computers are available. Low demand times for computers are typically after 2pm until closing Monday-Thursday and all day Friday. Community users will need to ask a library staff member to log them on to a computer or borrow a laptop computer at the Check Out Desk. Because community users cannot get a SPSCC print account, they will not be able to print from the computers.

All computer users are expected to adhere to the Computer Resources Acceptable Use Policy and should be aware that some materials accessed on the Internet may be considered controversial, offensive, or inappropriate for viewing in a public setting. Out of consideration for others and to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for everyone, computer users should take care not to display or broadcast in any shared public place any images, sounds, or messages that could create an atmosphere of discomfort, harassment, or intimidation for others. Deliberately displaying materials which create a hostile environment for work or study will not be permitted.

In situations where the display or broadcast of such materials is necessary to further a legitimate educational purpose, please consult with library staff to arrange a less public place to view these materials.
