Interlibrary Loan (ILL) FAQs

SPSCC students, faculty, or staff can use the SPSCC Library's ILL.

Community members may request interlibrary loans through their public library:

Yes, ILL is free! However, you will be responsible for paying any overdue or lost fines if you return a physical item late or damaged, or if you don't return it at all.

SPSCC Library will try to get any item another library is willing to lend. Libraries are generally willing to lend items such as books, Blu-rays, DVDs, CDs, and music scores. Libraries will also send us digital scans of journal articles and book chapters.

Yes, although textbooks are often in high demand and it may be difficult for SPSCC Library to find a library willing to lend a textbook. It is also unlikely a textbook borrowed through ILL could be used for an entire quarter. If you do borrow a textbook through ILL, you will be responsible for paying any overdue or lost fines if you return the textbook late or damaged, or if you don't return it at all.

Physical items (like books) typically take 5-10 business days.

Digital items (like articles) typically take 1-2 business days.

Physical ILL items can be picked up in person at the SPSCC Library.

To check the status of your ILL request, please contact Nick Triggs at ntriggs@spscc.edu or call 360-596-5426.

The amount of time you can keep a physical ILL item will vary and is decided by the library that lends us the item. If you need more time, please contact Nick Triggs at ntriggs@spscc.edu or call 360-596-5426. Whether or not you can keep it for longer will depend on the lending library. You will also be responsible for paying any overdue or lost fines if you return a physical item late or damaged, or if you don't return it at all.

Digital items like articles or chapter scans are yours to keep!

Physical ILL items may returned to the SPSCC Library during open hours or at any time to our book-drop which is located outside the coffee shop entrance to Building 22.

Digital items do not need to be returned and are yours to keep.
