Almost since their creation, comic books (and by extension the longer form known as graphic novels) were considered for younger audiences with little to no educational or academic value. The 1950s even saw a time of moral panic where people were convinced that comic books were harmful and needed to be destroyed.
In the last few years though, there has been a growing wave of support and appreciation for graphic novels as both an art to be appreciated and a tool for education in a variety of subjects. This has also led to an increase in scholarship about graphic novels, their history, their style, and their use. Below you will find a few of the titles available, most of which are available through the SPSCC library.
