Focuspartners - the anti-procrastination program

Questions and Answers

A FOCUSpartner is another SPSCC student who has requested a FOCUSpartner (self-identified as having procrastination challenges). The goal is that you will both keep each other on track with meeting deadlines. Almost all students have taken or are taking CCS101 so you can apply the time management skills you learned in that class, only with help from a partner.

Fill out the FOCUSpartners Application. We’ll notify students of their match by week 3 of the quarter.

The deadline for Spring 2023 is May 1.

Absolutely no cost to you.

If you want your FOCUSpartner to keep your participation confidential, please ask them to do so. All FOCUSpartners should respect requests for confidentiality (though you can reveal your own participation if you like).

That is up to you and your FOCUSpartner. The expectation is that you will be in contact at least once a week. You will be matched up with someone who indicates they are willing to spend about as much time as you.

The librarian will send a list of ideas as a launching point to discuss with your FOCUSpartner. Probably the first thing to do is make and exchange your calendars, whether it’s for a week, a month, or the whole quarter. You and your FOCUSpartner will decide what to do from there.

You can if you both want, but this is not expected or required.

You will receive an email from Sarah Kaip No later than Friday of week 3. Your FOCUSpartner will be copied on the email, and instructions on how to get started will be attached.

We try to match by the classes students are taking.

If you do not want someone in one of your classes but happen to get assigned one, email Sarah Kaip at skaip@spscc.edu and she’ll try to find you a new FOCUSpartner. Let her know as soon as possible as the longer you wait, the harder it will be to find a replacement.

This is also up to you and your FOCUSpartner. You can communicate via text, email, Zoom, social media, in-person, whatever works for both of you.

You can email Sarah Kaip at skaip@spscc.edu and request a new FOCUSpartner. We’ll do our best to find you a new one. In rare cases, we may put 3 people together so that everyone who wants a FOCUSpartner gets one.

Just one quarter.

If you and your FOCUSpartner want to keep going, you do not need to reapply. If you want a new FOCUSpartner for next quarter, you can fill out the form again.

That’s ok. This is to try to help you. There are no consequences from this FOCUSpartner program. We want this to be a positive experience for everyone, so all FOCUSpartners should refrain from judging, criticizing, threatening, and punishing.

Assume your FOCUSpartner is doing their best. Some people are dealing with personal problems and/or mental health issues while trying to better their lives by pursuing a college degree, so be as encouraging and supportive as possible.
