What is a peer-reviewed article?

Scholarly peer-reviewed articles undergo a rigorous review process by a committee of experts in the field before they can be published. Traits include:

  • Authors have advanced degrees (PhD or Master's)
  • Usually no color or advertising
  • Technical jargon, written at an advanced level
  • Lengthy articles
  • Always a list of references
  • Charts and graphs
  • Purpose is to further knowledge in the field (new studies, new theories)
  • Audience is other scholars
