Students: is online learning right for you?

Time

A week has 168 hours: how do you spend them?

Time is the final component to think about as you determine if online learning suits you. Many students elect to take online courses because schedules filled with work, family, and other commitments do not fit well with face-to-face courses. However, in spite of their flexibility, online classes still require every bit as much time as other classes.

For each online class, you will need 10-15 hours of uninterrupted time each week.

Try to lay out your schedule of work, family, sleep, and personal commitments. If you can identity 10-15 hours each week for your studies, then online learning could fit well into your life.

Before you sign up for an online course, study how you currently spend your time and identify the 10-15 hours you will need, per class, to succeed as an online student.

Hear from some students about how they manage their time for online learning.
